Balcas Brites Wood Pellets
Balcas is one of the largest pellet manufacturer in the UK (and one of only 4 ENPlus certified manufacturers) producing pellets under the trade name Brites.
The company has been in the timber trade for over 50 years and branched out into renewable energy in 2004.
Their first plant and headquarters at Enniskillen in Northern Ireland started production in 2004 and has a capacity of 55,000 tonnes per year. Their second plant at Invergordon in the north of Scotland was constructed in 2007 and has a capacity of 100,000 tonnes.
Brites are made from sawdust, a by-product from the softwood sawmills on site and all wood used is sourced from sustainable forests approved by the Forestry Stewardship Council.
Both plants produce their own power from biomass, are self-sufficient in electricity and even able to sell surplus back to the grid.
